DJ Njelic’s Early Life
Tshwarelo Motlhako, known professionally as DJ Njelic, was born in Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa. During high school, he was a talented soccer player but chose a different path in life. Raised by a step-father who he describes as a hardworking and supportive figure, Njelic found guidance and stability in his upbringing. From a young age, he was determined to avoid negative influences and instead focused on his passion for music.
Njelic's love for music began when he was just five years old. He was always the life of the party, dancing at family gatherings and entertaining those around him. As he grew older, he discovered his singing talent, which led him to join his school choir. Music became a refuge from the challenging environment of his neighborhood, where drugs, alcohol, and other negative influences were prevalent. He was determined to stay away from these distractions by immersing himself in his musical pursuits.
In high school, he continued to develop his musical skills and joined a band called Band of Hope, where he sang tenor. The band's success in various competitions reinforced his belief that he was destined for a career in music rather than a traditional academic or medical path. His early experiences with the choir and band solidified his passion for music and shaped his career as DJ Njelic.

Njelic initially made a name for himself with the popular track "Shesha Geza," a collaboration with De Mthuda, and further established his presence with the soulful "Wamuhle," featuring the talented Boohle. His original stage name was “Nje Nje,” but he opted for a change upon discovering that someone else in Soweto was already using it.
Njelic attributes his success to what he describes as "pure luck," rather than any specific formula. In 2023, he curated the Boiler Room and Ballantine's True Music Studios experience, showcasing the authentic Amapiano sounds from Soweto.
For aspiring artists, DJ Njelic advises against undervaluing themselves and encourages them to utilize online platforms like YouTube and Instagram to share their work.
