Mobi Dixon - Biography, Career and Songs

Mabi Ntuli, professionally known as Mobi Dixon or DJ Mabi, is a South African DJ and music producer. He gained significant attention with his debut studio album, ‘Tribal Soul’ (2014), which went on to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). The album's lead single, "City Rains," was particularly successful, debuting at number three in South Africa.

Career

Mabi Ntuli, professionally known as Mobi Dixon or DJ Mabi, began his musical career while attending school in the late 1990s, producing beats for South African hip hop artists. After matriculating, he pursued a Sound Engineering diploma at Selborne College and later earned an Information Technology diploma from Damelin College in East London. In 2007, he established his own recording label and released his Extended Play, "Dance is Kulcha," which was distributed both on vinyl and digitally. That same year, Mobi Dixon entered and won the DJU/AXE remix competition.

In 2012, he produced the album "Dinaledi" for DJ Vetkuk and Mahoota, further establishing himself as a skilled producer. On July 11, 2014, Dixon released his single "City Rains," featuring Mque. The song peaked at number 3 on the Entertainment Monitoring Africa top 100 RAMS charts. His debut studio album, "Tribal Soul," followed in October 2014 and debuted at number one on iTunes. It was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). To promote the album, Dixon embarked on the City Rains Tour in August 2015.

In early 2016, Mobi Dixon signed a record deal with Sony Entertainment Africa and House Afrika Records. On June 24, 2016, he released the lead single from his second studio album, "Live the Music," titled "Trigger," featuring Inga Hina, which was certified platinum by RiSA. Later that year, he released the single "Ezizweni," featuring Zimbabwean-born singer Berita, which peaked at number 2 on the Entertainment Monitoring Africa charts. His second studio album, "Live the Music," was released on September 2, 2016, certified gold, and won Best Dance Album at the 2017 Metro FM Awards.

On September 1, 2017, Dixon released the single "Bhutiza," featuring South African singer Nichume, and in August 2018, he followed up with the album "10 Steps Forward." This album was nominated for Best Dance Album at the 25th South African Music Awards. In October 2019, he released the single "Kobanini," featuring Nomcebo Zikode and co-producer T-Love. In November 2021, his single "When House Was a House," featuring Mariechan and JNR, entered the Local Music Radio Charts at number 38. His eighth studio album, "When House Was a House," was released on November 19, 2021.

In August 2022, Dixon embarked on his 2 Leg Mobi Tek Tour, starting in Nairobi, Kenya, to promote his fourth studio album "Mobi Tek." On September 13, 2022, he released the lead single "Banike," featuring South African group Mafikizolo, and the album followed on September 30, 2022.

Most recently, on August 30, 2024, Mobi Dixon released his extended play "Sacred Steps," an afro-house record that incorporates the 3 steps genre, showcasing his continuous evolution as an artist.
