Ms Cosmo - Biography, Career and Songs

Nonqaba Nozuko Rwaxa, born on April 20, 1988, and professionally known as Ms Cosmo, is a prominent South African DJ, radio personality, MC, podcaster, music producer, and singer. She is recognized for hosting "The Trap House" and "The Stir Up" on 5FM. Ms Cosmo also made history as the first female DJ to join Channel O’s DJ music show, "The Bassment."

Early Life

Born in Diepkloof, Soweto, Ms Cosmo spent the first six years of her life there before her family relocated to the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Her early love for hip-hop was influenced by her cousin. She attended Bryanston Primary School and Bryanston High School before earning a degree in BCom Finance and Investment Management from the University of Johannesburg.

Career

After graduating, Ms Cosmo initially worked as a commercial property finance consultant at a bank. However, her passion for music led her to enroll at FUSE Academy, an institution designed for aspiring DJs. This transition allowed her to open for major international artists such as Kanye West, Chris Brown, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, and Chance The Rapper during their South African tours.

In 2012, she joined YFM as a YTKO DJ, where she performed weekly live mixes. She also made history by becoming the first and only female DJ to join Channel O’s DJ music show, "The Bassment." The following year, she became a presenter on 5FM, hosting the weekly hip-hop show "The Stir Up."

Ms Cosmo's music career took off in 2017 with the release of her debut single "Connect," which featured Nasty C, Rouge, and Kwesta and achieved the number one spot on the 5FM & YFM Charts. In July 2020, she launched her online podcast, "SHE Social Podcast," which highlights women in various artistic fields, from fashion to music and art. Later that year, she released the single "Baningi," featuring Sho Madjozi, Dee Koala, and Nelisiwe Sibiya, as well as the single "Bhuti," which featured Boity and Moonchild Sanelly.
