Collen Mmotla, better known as Chymamusique, is a 34-year old talented South African DJ, remixer, and house music producer. Born and raised in Diphale, Burgersfort, Chyma began his musical career in the early 2000s as a pianist before transitioning to DJing. His third studio album, Musique (2022), debuted at number one in South Africa and reflects his upbringing and the musical influences of his father.

Chymamusique has achieved significant milestones in the music industry, including winning the Best Male Vocalist Award at the 2015 Dance Music Awards South Africa. He was also nominated for the Best House Record Award at the South African Music Awards. His music has been featured on various international radio stations, such as BBC Radio 1Xtra and Kiss FM.

Early Life and Education

Chymamusique, born Collen Mmotla on June 4, 1990, in Diphale, a small town in the North West Province of South Africa, had a passion for music from a young age. Inspired by his father, a jazz musician, he started playing the piano at age 7 and was producing his own music by his teenage years.

Chymamusique's first break came in 2010 with the release of his debut album, Gift of Sound, which was well received by both fans and critics. This album established him as one of the rising stars of the South African house music scene. After completing his matric in 2007, he studied Analytical Chemistry at the University of Technology and later attended Boston College, where he studied media and graduated in 2013.

Career

Chymamusique, born Collen Mmotla, began his music career in 2000 as a gospel and jazz pianist before developing an interest in house music in 2005 and starting to produce it in 2006. He released his first online single in 2010. He founded and manages "Chymamusique Records" and is signed to the record labels House Afrika and Soul Candi. He was a member of Mofunk Records from 2010 to 2013.

Chymamusique has played internationally as a DJ, sharing stages with notable DJs and producers such as Vinny Da Vinci, Ralf Gum, Brazo Wa Afrika, Glen Lewis, QB Smith, Charles Webster, and Atjazz. In music production, he has collaborated with artists including Kaylow, DJ Fresh, Anané Vega, Monique Bingham, Brazo wa Afrika, Brian Temba, George Lesley, and Ree Morris.

In early September 2021, he announced his third studio album via Instagram. The album, Musique, was released on September 30, 2021, featuring collaborations with Afrotraction, Da Vynalist, DJ Tears PLK, Brian Temba, Rona Ray, and Buddynice. It peaked at number one on the local iTunes album charts.
