Nomfundo Moh -  Biography, Career and Discography

Nomfundo Ngcobo, known professionally as Nomfundo Moh, is a South African singer and songwriter who gained recognition after releasing her hit single "Lilizela" in 2021. The song was a huge success and received platinum certification in South Africa.

Nomfundo signed a record deal with Universal Music, which marked the beginning of her rise to prominence. In 2022, she released her debut studio album, "Amagama," which also achieved platinum status according to the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). The album was preceded by several commercially successful singles, including "Phakade Lami," "Lilizela," and "Umthwalo."

Nomfundo Moh cites Brenda Fassie, Ami Faku, Simmy, and Amanda Black as her major influences, which is reflected in her unique musical style and powerful vocal performances.

Early Life

Nomfundo Moh, born on July 18, 2000, in Ndwendwe, KwaZulu-Natal, began her career at the age of 16 in 2016. Ngcobo would be 24 years old in 2024. She studied at Intaphuka Primary School and enrolled at the University of KwaZulu-Natal for a Bachelor of Social Work degree. Specializing in Afro-pop music, her early musical career began towards the end of 2010 as a featured artist.

Career

In September 2020, Nomfundo Moh commenced work on her debut studio album. Later that year, she signed a record deal with Universal Music South Africa. February 2021 marked a breakthrough with the release of her lead single "Lilizela" from the album. The song achieved Platinum certification in South Africa.

By June 2021, she released the second single from the album, "Umthwalo". On October 7, 2021, Nomfundo Moh dropped her third single, "Phakade Lami", featuring South African singer Ami Faku and Zimbabwean-born singer Sha Sha.The track debuted at number 1 on the Metro FM Top 40 Charts and reached number 4 on the Most Popular Radio Singles chart. It was certified 6× Platinum in South Africa.

On January 28, 2022, Nomfundo Moh released her debut studio album, "Amagama". The album blends elements of R&B, traditional pop, and hip hop, and peaked at number 7 on the Spotify album charts. In early March 2022, Moh was featured on Apple Music's Africa Rising program. On April 13, she was appointed as an Equal Africa Ambassador by Spotify. In May 2022, she participated in the Shay’na nge White Star campaign, which included performances in Johannesburg on May 12 and Durban on May 21.

In March 2023, Nomfundo Moh announced her second studio album, "Ugcobo", along with its lead single "Amalobolo" featuring Big Zulu, released on March 10, 2023. The second single, "Uthando Lunye", was announced on April 25, 2023, via her Instagram account and released on April 28, 2023. "Ugcobo" was officially released on May 26, 2023, becoming her first album to amass 1 million streams within less than a week of its release.
